Do you have a tooth damaged by decay or infection? Has your tooth been restored several times and may fracture? At Omni Dental Group your Bowie family dentist uses porcelain crowns to breathe new life into weak teeth. Dr. Siamak Aalemansour, Dr. Fariborz Baik, or Dr. Sherwin Esfandiari perform the entire treatment in their Bowie MD office.

Preserve natural teeth

That's the goal of your Bowie family dentist. We can't say that an extraction is never an option, but when possible, your dentist will do all he can to preserve the tooth structure, biting, chewing, clear speech, and strong jaw bone that nature intended.

You may need a dental crown

Just what is a dental crown? It's a jacket of medical-grade porcelain which is precisely made and fit to support and completely cover your weak tooth. The ceramic cap looks like a natural tooth and blends right in with its neighbors.

Your Bowie family dentist may advise a crown on a front tooth, back tooth, or anywhere in between. Once cemented in place, a crown withstands the incredible forces exerted by biting and chewing.

Additionally, your Bowie family dentist places crowns to secure bridgework and restore today's most successful tooth replacement, the dental implant. In short, a porcelain crown is very versatile.

The treatment

If your dentist wishes to pursue a crown, he'll examine your tooth carefully--both visually and with digital X-rays. If the tooth is a good candidate, he'll numb it and reduce its size and shape so the crown fits securely.

Also, he removes the damaged portions. Some teeth require root canal therapy to extract diseased interior pulp before crown placement. In either case, you may wear a temporary, or provisional, crown until your permanent one is ready.

Afterward, your mouth will adjust quickly to your new crown. Simply brush and floss as you normally do, and see your family dentist in his Bowie office twice a year for cleanings and check-ups. He'll examine that crown, its margins, and surrounding teeth and gums to be sure all is well.

Life with your dental crown

Enjoy your restored tooth, but avoid tartar build-up and the excessive stresses of teeth clenching, hard foods (peanut brittle or ice), or biting your fingernails. These forces could dislodge or fracture your crown.

Remember, while a crown is a reasonable facsimile of your natural tooth, its porcelain cannot flex as real enamel can. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) states that this relative rigidity makes crowns susceptible to fracture if abused.

Have confidence in your smile

A dental crown improves a smile in so many ways. Would you like to know more? You can fix your crooked smile with braces that fly under the radar.

It’s never too late to get a straight smile. In fact, it’s easier than ever before for our older patients to fix their misaligned teeth and bad bites. This is because our Bowie, MD, dentists Dr. Siamak Aalemansour, Dr. Fariborz Baik and Dr. Sherwin Esfandiari provide Invisalign treatment to teens and adults who wish to get straight smiles but without visible braces.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign doesn’t use brackets or wires to move teeth into place, just a series of clear, custom trays that are worn over teeth like mouthguards. Of course, these aligners are made from flexible and thin plastic, so they are lightweight and comfortable.

The aligners are custom-fitted to your upper and lower teeth, applying the appropriate amount of pressure to move shift teeth around. Most patients will wear anywhere from 18-30 aligners during the course of their treatment, with more minor dental issues requiring fewer aligners.

Wearing Invisalign

Many teens and adults are turning to our Bowie, MD, dentists for Invisalign because this treatment doesn’t just provide amazing results (sometimes with a faster turnaround time) but also make patients feel comfortable and confident while wearing their braces. Not only are aligners completely transparent, they are also removable. This means that the wearer can take their aligners out right before eating or caring for their teeth.

Also, if you have an important event, meeting or date, you can also choose to remove your aligners beforehand. Having an orthodontic treatment that fits into your life is incredibly important for our older patients, and Invisalign fits the bill perfectly.

Candidates for Invisalign

Most older teens and adults are great candidates for Invisalign. In fact, this treatment can handle a wide range of minor to more severe bite problems and alignment issues. Invisalign may be ideal for you if you want to correct,

  • Crowding
  • Spacing
  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Underbites

Have questions about getting Invisalign? If so, our Bowie, MD, dentists can answer your questions and help you determine if this is the right treatment option for you. Schedule a consultation with Omni Dental Group at (301) 809-0029.

Could your smile benefit from a makeover? Your Bowie, MD, cosmetic dentists, Dr. Siamak Aalemansour, Dr. Fariborz Baik, and Dr. Sherwin Esfandiari, can help you enhance your smile with veneers and other restorations.

How do veneers work?

Veneers are thin, tooth-shaped shells made of porcelain. The restorations are designed to conceal flaws and minor imperfections that mar your smile. They're attached to the fronts of your teeth, the area where flaws are most noticeable.

Although veneers completely transform the appearance of teeth, they don't require any major changes to your tooth structure. In fact, during your visit to the Bowie dental office your dentist will only need to remove a tiny amount of tooth enamel to ensure a comfortable, natural fit.

How can veneers help my smile?

Veneers offer several benefits for your smile including:

  • Superior Whitening: Do you wish your teeth were as white as your favorite actor's? Celebrities and non-celebrities alike keep their smiles bright with veneers. Veneers are available in many shades of white and are resistant to stains from coffee, tea, cola, wine and brightly pigmented foods. Veneers are often used to hide discolored teeth.
  • Coverage for Imperfections: Even minor imperfections can draw unwanted attention to your smile. Thanks to veneers, no one has to know that you have a chip or shallow crack in a tooth. The restorations also keep uneven surfaces out of sight.
  • No More Gaps: Even slight gaps between teeth can be very noticeable. Veneers close gaps that may make you feel self-conscious. Although large gaps may require orthodontic treatment, small spaces can be concealed with veneers.
  • Shape and Length Enhancements: Teeth aren't always perfectly uniform. It's not unusual for a few to be a little crooked or oddly shaped. Veneers improve the shape of these teeth and enhance the symmetry of your smile. They're also a good choice if you have a tooth that's a little too short. Once your veneers are cemented to the fronts of your teeth, your smile will no longer look uneven.

Renew your smile with veneers. Call your cosmetic dentists in Bowie, MD, Drs. Aalemansour, Baik and Esfandiari at (301) 809-0029 to schedule an appointment.

Dealing with tooth loss? Find out how dental implants can help.

Losing a tooth isn’t only for children. In fact, millions of American adults are also missing at least one tooth. After this tooth-loss occurs, patients are left wondering, "so now what is the best course of action?" The answer is dental implants, an amazing restoration that both looks and works just like a real tooth.

Here at Omni Dental Group in Bowie, MD, your family dentists, Dr. Siamak Aalemansour, Dr. Fariborz Baik, and Dr. Sherwin Esfandiari, offer these restorations to give their patients the best smile possible. Read on to learn what dental implants can do for you.

What are dental implants?

This restoration is designed to replace your missing teeth and is made up of three different parts,

  • A metal post or screw: a titanium post will be placed into the jaw where it will naturally fuse together with the bone over the course of 3-6 months
  • An abutment: an abutment is a connector that links up the metal post with the false tooth
  • A dental crown: an artificial tooth will be custom made and then cemented into place on top of the abutment to complete the restoration

What goes into getting a dental implant?

Getting an implant takes time, but once it is placed, this restoration is designed to give you a fully functional, beautiful smile that is designed to last for decades. In order to start the implant process our Bowie, MD, one of our family dentists will need to examine your mouth and run an x-ray screening to make sure that you are healthy enough for implants.

From there, the next step is to place the implant. This requires minor surgery in which our dentist will place the implant directly into the jawbone, an action that is completely pain-free thanks to the wonders of local anesthesia. Once this has been completed, the implant will integrate with the natural bone and tissue over a 3-6 month period. Following this time, the implant will remain a permanent structure within the jawbone.

After the implant has fused with your jawbone, the next step is to place the connector (i.e. abutment) over the implant, an action that requires another minor surgery as well as a two week healing period. Finally, once this has occurred, we can place the permanent crown over the abutment to finalize the restoration and give your new smile.

Have you or a loved one recently experienced a dental emergency? A throbbing toothache, a knocked-out tooth, a lost filling—they can allDental_Emergency be frightening. Fortunately, your family dentists here at Omni Dental Group in Bowie, MD, are to help you through these crises and protect your smile!

What is a dental emergency?

It's any oral health issue that requires immediate action, and in these situations, it is important to stay calm—take first things first. For instance, an oral laceration may require direct pressure with a clean cloth or gauze to quell bleeding. In another example, if someone loses a filling, chips a tooth, or cracks a crown, they must make sure to gather all of the pieces and take them to our office in Bowie.

In any dental emergency, communication with our family dentists, Dr. Baik, Dr. Esfandiari, or Dr. Aalemansour, is critical. They'll quickly and kindly tell you how to stabilize the urgent condition and get you into the office for treatment as necessary. Furthermore, because our team is made of family dentists, this care can be supplied to people of all ages.

Examples of dental emergencies and what you can do

  • Avulsed Tooth: Rinse a knocked-out tooth with clear water. Replant it, roots down, into the empty socket and hold it there while making the trek to Omni Dental Group. Most avulsed teeth survive and function well if put back in place within just a few minutes of injury, however, if you cannot put the tooth into the socket, place it between the cheek and gums, or in a sealed container with water, milk, or over the counter tooth preservative.
  • Chipped/Cracked Tooth, Filling, or Crown: Save the fragments, and take them to your family dentist. They may be bonded back in place, or as needed, the doctor may restore the tooth with composite resin or a new crown.
  • Toothache Ice the jaw, 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off, to reduce pain and swelling. Additionally, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers according to package directions, and call Omni Dental Group for an appointment.
